Panch Pargana Kisan College, Bundu is situated in an atmosphere of natural splendour along National Highway 33 in Bundu sub-division under Ranchi district of Jharkhand State. The history of the college is, in fact, the history of beginning of a new enlightening spirit in the field of education in this region. The word "Panch Pargana" in the name of the college stands for the region consisting of Bundu, Tamar, Rahe, Sonahatu and Barenda while the other word "Kisan" has been added in the former word in the name of the college to indicate the dense population of farmers in this area.
At the early stage, teaching in all the important subject of Arts was imparted in the college. Affiliation up to Intermediate level in 1978 and and affiliation up to degree level in 1980 were granted to the college by the Government of Bihar. Progressing day by day on the path of development, the college became a constituent unit of Ranchi University, Ranchi in 1986. In 1989 the college was registered under 2 (F) and 12 (B) Sections of UGC Act 1956.
Presently, Co-educational teaching up to degree level of Honours standard in all the important subject of Arts, Science and Commerce faculties along with the Vocational Course of Computer Application is imparted in the college. Taking the cultural background of the region into consideration, teaching of Panch Pargania, Kurmali and Mundari languages is also imparted in the college. At present the total number of students in the college is 7446. Approximately 90% of the total students of the college belong to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other Backward Classes categories.
In the beginning the college was run in the morning session in the building of Govt. High School, Bundu. In 1981 the building of the college was inaugurated by the then Vice-Chancellor of Ranchi University, Ranchi Dr. A.K. Dhan but the problem of insufficiency of fund still persisted. At that time the then Hon'ble Minister for Education, Govt. of Bihar late Karamchand Bhagat took a salutary measure to give generously a sum of Rs 4,53,668/ (Four Lakh Fifty three Thousand Six Hundred Sixty Eight only) as a grant to the college.
The then MLA of the Legislative constituency of this area and Hon'ble Minister for Forest and Tribal Welfare of Govt. of Bihar late T. Muchi Ray Munda had been kind enough to add a new chapter in the history of development of the college by giving a sum of Rs 1,00000/- (One Lakh) only for construction of two rooms of the college. In 1988 Late T. Muchi Ray Munda had again been generous to grant a sum of Rs 202100/- (Two Lakh Twenty One Thousand) only for construction of two lecture theatres and also a sufficient amount of fund for fencing round the college campus with barbed wires.
The Hon'ble Member of Parliament of this area Sri Karia Munda has also been very generous in granting adequate amount of money out of his MP fund for construction of four rooms of the college. The college family would always be indebted to Late Karamchand Bhagat and Late T Muchi Ray Munda and Sri Karia Munda for their patronage, to such teaching and non-teaching staff whose selfless service and co-operation brought the college at this height and to all those who, directly or indirectly, contributed to the development of the college.
In order to involve students in the task of National Service an NSS wing was started in the college in 1986. Both students and teachers of the college have been involving themselves in the task of national development through their combined participation in social service. Some of the students of the college have been rewarded for their good performance in the related activities at National levels.
With an aim to cultivate in students organized activities based on fair play, the Games and Sports Departments of the college has been organizing various events of games and sports. The students of the college have been participating in the Inter-College Competitions and Inter-University Competitions. Some of the students of the college have won prizes in the competitions of Games and Sports.
The College library is rich enough to provide the students of the college an easy access to knowledge and information with a collection of more than 15,000 books. The list of books subjective is given in College Library link.
The laboratories of Geography, Psychology, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Geology departments of the college are sufficiently equipped to provide knowledge to the students though emphasis on the experimental aspects of the subjects concerned.
There are two college hostels with good facilities for ST students. One of the hostels has the capacity of accommodating 60 students while the other has the accommodating capacity of 40 students.
